This isn't about being green, it's about maths. Three things happened, and together they change what powering your life should cost.

Solar became the cheapest electricity ever made

In 2010, solar was the expensive option. Thirteen years later its cost has fallen by roughly 89%, cheaper than coal, gas, and everything that came before it.

Your roof now beats the grid, and the pump

Rooftop solar delivers power to a New Zealand home for around 13c per kWh, including upfront cost and interest on the loan. The grid averages around 35c. Petrol? Don't ask.

Electric machines turn cheap energy into real savings

An EV, a heat pump, and an induction cooktop are how a household actually banks it, up to around $7,600 a year for a fully electric home with solar, while slashing emissions.

Who we are, and what we do

Aotearoa has natural advantages in the energy transition. We work to make sure everyday New Zealanders are at the front of it, through three streams of mahi.

Rewiring Aotearoa is building electrification knowledge and capability within our whānau, communities and small businesses.

We support community-led action in the electrification transition, ensuring everyone has the opportunity to save thousands every year on bills, while lowering emissions and improving resilience.

The current policies and regulations surrounding our energy system were built for a fossil fuel world. There is tremendous potential for policy that is a win-win-win for the economy, the environment, and our resilience.

We engage directly with all levels of government, MPs, industry and regulators to keep the cost of living and consumers at the forefront of decarbonisation decisions.

The only way to practically achieve zero emissions is to understand the millions of fossil fuel machines that power our households and businesses.

We work on world-leading research into decarbonisation decision-making, and partner with businesses and industry to facilitate the energy transition at scale.
